How to use this patio material calculator
A paver patio order is three quantities from the same measured area: the pavers, the crushed base under them, and the bedding sand directly beneath the stones. This planner turns one length and width into that list. The depths are whatever you enter. It does not decide how thick a base should be for your soil or for vehicle traffic.
Step-by-step instructions
- Measure the finished patio length and width.
- Enter the base depth and bedding-sand depth you intend to install.
- Enter the paver size, joint and waste allowance, then print the materials list.
Calculation formula
Important assumptions and limitations
Level rectangle, one paver size and uniform layer depths. Loose base volume is the finished volume times your factor. Excavation, edge restraint, geotextile and joint sand are excluded.
For material orders, confirm package yields, stock sizes and installation instructions with the actual manufacturer or supplier. Your building department determines the applicable local code; a quantity estimator is not a structural design or permit approval.
Frequently asked questions
How many cubic yards of base does a patio need?
Cubic yards equal the area in square feet times the depth in feet, divided by 27. A 10 by 10 foot patio at 4 inches is about 1.23 cubic yards of finished base before any compaction allowance. Change the depth to match the installation you are actually building.
How is this different from the paver calculator?
The paver calculator counts stones only. This page adds the base gravel and bedding sand for the same footprint so you can order the project in one pass.
